How to use

1. 1Pick where your content lives: Translator for typed or pasted text, Documents for files, Images for photos and screenshots.
2. 2Choose the target language. Leave the source on Detect language and it will be identified for you.
3. 3Optionally open Options to set tone and style — see Translation options.
4. 4Translate, then copy or download the result. Everything you run is listed under History.

Language selectors

Click either language to open a searchable list. Type to filter by English name, native name or code. The ten most-used languages appear first.

Detect language

The default source setting. The language is identified while translating and shown as a badge next to the source selector.

Swap languages

Switches source and target. While the source is set to Detect language, swapping stays disabled until a first translation reveals what the source actually is — otherwise there would be nothing to swap to.

Character count20,000 max

Shown below the input and turns amber as you approach the limit. For anything longer, use the Documents workspace, which splits content automatically.

Paste and clear

Paste pulls from your clipboard where the browser allows it; the button hides itself if permission is refused. Clear empties the input only, Clear all resets both panels.

Copy, download, retry

Sit under the translation. Download saves a .txt file. Retry re-runs the same text, which is useful after a temporary failure.

Keyboard shortcut

Press Ctrl + Enter (⌘ + Enter on a Mac) from the input to translate without reaching for the mouse.

Right-to-left languages

Persian, Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Hebrew, Urdu and Kurdish are laid out right-to-left automatically, in both panels.

What is preserved

Each format keeps as much of its structure as the format allows — headings, lists, tables, rows and columns, tags and attributes. The exact guarantee for the file you selected is shown on the upload card before you translate.

Download as

Appears when a format can produce more than one output. A PDF, for example, comes back as Word, Markdown or plain text.

Progress

Shown as named stages rather than a percentage bar, because the time a translation takes cannot be measured reliably in advance. Stages tick off as they finish.

Partial results

If some sections fail after retries, you still get the document back with those sections in their original language, plus a warning saying how many were affected. A partial result is never presented as complete.

Mixed formatting inside a single Word paragraph — one bold word mid-sentence, for example — collapses to that paragraph's first formatting when translated. Paragraph styles, headings, lists and tables are fully preserved.

What it reads

Headings, body text, captions, labels, table cells, buttons, stamps and handwriting — in any supported script. Reading order and line breaks are kept.

Extracted text

The source text exactly as it appears in the image, shown above the translation so you can check the reading was correct.

Block by block

Pairs each visual block with its translation, which makes it easy to match a specific label or cell back to the picture.

Download

Saves a .txt file containing both the extracted source text and the translation.

Text is extracted and translated, not painted back onto the picture. You get the text, not an edited image.

Tonedefault: Preserve original

Preserve original mirrors the source register. Formal uses formal pronouns and honorifics where the language has them. Neutral is matter-of-fact, Friendly is warm, Professional suits client-facing writing, and Academic uses scholarly terminology.

Styledefault: Natural

Natural favours phrasing a native speaker would actually write. Balanced stays close to the source but smooths anything awkward. Literal follows the original wording and sentence structure as closely as grammar permits.

Preserve formattingdefault: on

Keeps line breaks, spacing, indentation and inline markers as they were.

Preserve namesdefault: on

Leaves people, companies, products and brands in their original form, using an established local form only where one genuinely exists.

Preserve technical termsdefault: on

Uses the standard professional equivalent for technical, legal and medical terms, and leaves them untranslated where that is the convention.

Numbers, dates, URLs, email addresses, file paths, order numbers and template placeholders such as {name} are always left untouched, whatever these options are set to.

Opening an entry

Click any card to see the full source text and translation side by side, with copy buttons on each.

Search and filter

Search matches source text, translation and file name. The tabs narrow the list to text, documents or images.

Open in translator

Available on text entries. Loads the original text, both languages and the previous result back into the translator so you can adjust and re-run it.

Download

Saves the translation as a .txt file from the detail view.

Delete and Clear all

Remove a single entry, or empty the whole list. Clearing asks for confirmation first and cannot be undone.

History keeps the translated text only. Translated document files are not stored in your browser, so a .docx or .pdf cannot be downloaded again from here — translate the file again to produce a new copy.

1. 1Go to Settings → Glossary and enter the source term with the translation you want.
2. 2Turn on Match case exactly if the term should only apply when the capitalisation matches.
3. 3Add the entry. It applies immediately to text, document and image translations while Apply the glossary is on.

How it is applied

Your preferred translation is used wherever the term appears in its ordinary meaning, inflected for grammar where the target language requires it. A synonym is never substituted.

Limits100 entries

Duplicate source terms are rejected, so one term always maps to one translation. Entries are stored in this browser.

Uploads

Files are held in memory for the length of a single request and are never written to disk by this app.

Translation provider

Text from your content is sent to Google's Gemini API to be translated, so Google's data-handling terms for the API plan in use apply. This app cannot make guarantees about what happens on their side.

Stored on your device

History, glossary entries and preferences live in this browser's local storage and never leave it. Clearing your browser data removes them.

Request limits

Translations are rate-limited per minute to keep the service responsive. If you hit the limit, wait a moment and try again.

Accuracy

This is machine translation. It is strong, but not a substitute for a professional translator — review anything legally, medically or contractually significant before relying on it.
